About it
The service provides non-resident university students with information on how to access healthcare services provided by the Italian National Health Service (SSN).
The information is broken down by three different types of students: Italian nationals, foreign nationals who are EU citizens and foreign nationals who are not EU citizens.
Through the contact channels indicated in the dedicated section, you can ask for further informations.
Please remember that, in case of a serious illness, it is best to go to the nearest hospital. In case of emergency, you can contact the 112 Single Emergency Number.
Students who are Italian citizens
If you are a non-resident student who is an Italian citizen and you need a medical appointment in the city where you are studying, you can go to a doctor affiliated with the National Health Service, bringing your Health Card and ID. The fees are € 15 for outpatient visits and € 25 for home visits. If you do not know the list of general practitioners or your competent ASL, you can write to info.healthcare@edisu-piemonte.it indicating your full address.
If you live outside your municipality of residence for most of the year, you can choose a general practitioner in the city where you study. You will have to give up the one in your place of residence at your ASL, obtain the certificate and deliver it to the ASL of the city where you study, where you will fill out a self-certification form. During those periods when you return home, you will have to pay for health services.
Specialist appointments must be prescribed by your general practitioner and booked at the ASL, paying the prescribed co-payment. Prescriptions from general practitioners in other regions are also valid in Piedmont.
In case of emergency, go immediately to the nearest emergency room or call the single number 112.

For specialist appointments, you still need a prescription from your general practitioner. You can then book them at the ASL in the city where you study, paying the prescribed fee. If you do not know the list of general practitioners, you can request it by writing to info.healthcare@edisu-piemonte.it indicating your full address.

To register you will need a valid permit of stay; without it, the application cannot be accepted. Once registered, you will be able to choose your general practitioner, who will provide free general appointments and prescribe drugs and specialist services.
